Dr Abel Wilson Walekhwa

Biography

Dr Abel Wilson Walekhwa from Uganda with 10 years of working experience in the field of One Health and public policy. He has vast experience working with local governments, the Ministry of Health, and Academia and is currently in the Office of the President, Uganda.

He has participated in One Health projects at the Makerere University Students One Health Club (2014-2016), Students One Health Club - Mbarara University of Science and Technology - MUST (2018-2020) and currently University of Cambridge One Health Society (October 2022- to date). In 2019-2020, Abel served as a Global President of the International Students One Health Association (ISOHA) under the guidance of Dr Cheryl Stroud of the One Health Commission, USA. In this role, he initiated One Health mentorships, set up regional rabies vaccination events and championed One Health students ISOHA journal. In 2024, Abel was head-hunted to mentor Mbarara University students at One Health Club given his successful engagements with One Health Clubs. 

Abel has championed One Health projects in Uganda including Anthrax One Health Simulation study with funding from Africa One Health University Network (AFROHUN) and the Rift Valley fever abortions surveillance study with funding from the Biotechnology and Biological Sciences Research Council (BBSRC).
