Professor Sir Alimuddin (Ali) Zumla is an internationally distinguished clinician-scientist renowned for his award-winning, health-policy-relevant research and capacity-development activities worldwide. Since 1994, Sir Zumla has been a professor of infectious diseases and international health at UCL and a consultant infectious diseases physician at UCL Hospitals NHS Foundation Trust. He leads several multidisciplinary research and training consortia across the United Kingdom of Great Britain and Northern Ireland, Europe, Africa and the Middle East. His work focuses on global public health priorities related to WHO Blueprint priority infectious diseases, including tuberculosis, zoonotic diseases, antimicrobial resistance and emerging and re-emerging pathogens with epidemic potential. Sir Zumla holds honorary professorships at numerous universities in Europe, Africa and the Middle East, and serves on various scientific advisory committees and expert groups for WHO and other public health bodies. He has over 980 publications, including 830 PubMed articles (180 in Lancet journals), 22 medical textbooks, 70 book chapters and 35 journal-themed series. His achievements are reflected in his inclusion on the Clarivate Lists (2018-2023) of the world's most highly cited researchers. Sir Zumla has received over 30 prestigious awards, including a knighthood from Her Majesty the Queen.
