Professor Aparna Shankar
Biography
Aparna Shankar is a Professor of Psychology at FLAME University, where she heads the Department of Psychological Sciences. Aparna’s work focuses on health and wellbeing in later life.
Aparna has published extensively on social isolation and loneliness in later life, using data from ageing cohorts such as the Longitudinal Ageing Study in India (LASI) and the English Longitudinal Study of Ageing. Her other research interests include the patterning of health behaviours, caregiving, the role of the environment on health and inequalities in access to care.
Aparna completed her PhD at the University of Leeds, following which she held posts at the University of Birmingham, University College London and St. George’s, University of London. She currently serves on the editorial board of BMC Public Health.
