Biography

Professor Daniel Bausch is an internationally recognized leader in global health research, education and programme implementation. He trained in internal medicine, infectious diseases, tropical medicine and public health.

Professor Bausch specializes in the research and control of emerging tropical viruses, with over 25 years’ experience in sub-Saharan Africa, Latin America, and Asia combating viruses such as Ebola, Lassa, hantavirus, and SARS coronaviruses.

From 2021 to 2024, Professor Bausch served as the Senior Advisor for Global Health Security at FIND (Geneva, Switzerland), overseeing FIND’s efforts on pandemic preparedness and response, surveillance, humanitarian emergencies and antimicrobial resistance.

Previously, Professor Bausch held leadership positions as the Director of the United Kingdom Public Health Rapid Support team, a combined programme of Public Health England and the London School of Hygiene and Tropical Medicine, at the World Health Organization (Geneva, Switzerland), the U.S. Naval Medical Research Unit No. 6 (Lima, Peru), the Tulane School of Public Health and Tropical Medicine (New Orleans, USA), and the U.S. Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (Atlanta, USA).

Professor Bausch currently holds appointments as a Professor of Tropical Medicine and Global Health at the London School of Hygiene and Tropical Medicine and as Visiting Professor at the National University of Singapore and is a past President and Scientific Program Chair of the American Society of Tropical Medicine and Hygiene.

Professor Bausch places a strong emphasis on capacity development in all his projects and has a keen interest in the role of the scientist in promoting health and human rights, striving to ensure that biomedical advances reach and translate to better health for those most in need. He is fluent in English, French and Spanish.

He served as a member of the IHR Emergency Committee on the multicountry outbreak of mpox.
