Associate Professor Bin Yu
Biography
Bin Yu’s research primarily focuses on exploring the relationship between social isolation, loneliness, and health outcomes, as well as examining the effects of social connection on stress response. He is also interested in developing methods to mitigate the negative consequences of social disconnection.
He earned his PhD in Social Psychology from Nankai University in 2014. From 2016 to 2017, he served as an academic visitor at the Department of Epidemiology and Public Health, University College London. His expertise spans multiple disciplines, including psychology and epidemiology, which enriches his research with diverse perspectives. His studies address a gap in understanding how social disconnection impacts the health of older Chinese populations. Currently, he serves as the principal investigator of a National Social Science Project investigating the impacts of loneliness on the mental and physical well-being of Chinese older adults.
