Christopher Castle
Biography
Chris Castle has more than 25 years of development experience in the areas of education and health, working at UNESCO since 2004. After holding a position at UNESCO’s International Institute for Educational Planning (IIEP), he transferred to UNESCO Headquarters and is currently serving as Chief of the Section of Health and Education, where he oversees a Section team of ten professionals and coordinates a network of over 40 HIV and health education staff worldwide, including UNESCO’s five Regional HIV and Health Education Advisers. His responsibilities include policy development, the provision of technical support and capacity-building for Member States and UNESCO regional and country offices, resource mobilization, and representation of UNESCO at various inter-agency mechanisms including through his designation as the UNESCO Global Coordinator for UNAIDS. He supports the implementation of UNESCO’s work plan (C/5) that is fully aligned to UNESCO’s Strategy on Education for Health and Well-Being: Contributing to the Sustainable Development Goals, covering the period 2016-2021, and to the UNAIDS Strategy.
His most recent position before joining UNESCO was as a Research Associate at the Population Council, managing operations research in the areas of HIV prevention, treatment, care and support in Africa, Asia-Pacific, and Latin America and the Caribbean.
Mr. Castle holds a BS in International Studies and French from The American University, and an MSc in International Relations from the London School of Economics.
