Biography

Prof Claude Tayou Tagny is a medical doctor (MD since 1998) with specialized training in clinical biology and hematology obtained in Cameroon, Belgium, Switzerland, and the US. He has specific training and expertise in Transfusion medicine (MSc since 2008) notably in Blood safety in resource-limited settings. Claude works for two different entities: 1)The Faculty of Medicine and Biomedical Sciences of the University of Yaoundé 1 as a full Professor of hematology and Transfusion Medicine; he chairs the hematology unit 2)the Yaoundé University Teaching Hospital as a consultant hematologist and head of the hematology and blood transfusion department. In the Africa Society for Blood Transfusion, Prof Claude is the Accreditation Manager of the Blood Services. He chairs of the scientific committee of the Francophone Africa Transfusion Research Network. Prof Claude Tayou has published more than 120 papers in peer-reviewed journals, mainly in the Blood Transfusion safety area, focusing on issues and strategies for resource-limited countries. Based on his expertise in transfusion safety and quality, he has developed and led several teams for their implementation. The current recognition of the peers is the status of the member at large for Africa of the ISBT Global Safety Working Party, member of several technical committees in African societies, and WHO expert.
