Professor Nizam Damani is a clinical microbiologist and leading expert in IPC. He serves as a consultant and adviser to the Public Health Agency in the United Kingdom of Great Britain and Northern Ireland and is the chairman of Aga Khan Global Health Professional Group. Professor Damani has served on numerous WHO advisory groups and committees, such as those related to hand hygiene, injection safety, tuberculosis, surgical site infections, the Global Action Plan on AMR, IPC core components, COVID-19, mpox, and Ebola/Marburg diseases. He has been recognized with excellence awards in IPC from the United Kingdom of Great Britain and Northern Ireland, and the United States of America, and he received the prestigious Graham Ayliffe Award of Excellence from the International Federation of Infection Control. For his contributions to IPC for United Kingdom of Great Britain and Northern Ireland and WHO, he was honoured as a Member of the Order of the British Empire. Professor Damani has authored many scientific papers and book chapters and has contributed to the development of National IPC guidelines for Pakistan, Egypt, Sierra Leone and the United Kingdom of Great Britain and Northern Ireland.
