Biography

Kari Johansson, PhD, Assistant Professor, Docent at the Clinical Epidemiology Division, Institute of Medicine (Solna) Karolinska Institutet, Sweden is an perinatal epidemiologist with an MSc in Nutrition. Her main research is focused on understanding risk and benefits of treatments and prevention for obesity in the pregnant population. Foremost, she has conducted research on weight gain during pregnancy, as well as studying the effect of bariatric surgery prior pregnancy. On the topic of pregnancy weight gain, she and her team has created BMI-specific pregnancy weight gain charts for Swedish women, and estimated the association between pregnancy weight gain z-scores and adverse pregnancy outcomes.
