Dr Sadia Shakoor

Biography

Dr Shakoor is a practising physician and clinical microbiologist in Pakistan, with a strong background in internal medicine and clinical infectious disease and possess a broad range of clinical and laboratory skills. In addition, she has actively worked towards accreditation of her laboratory and is versant with quality management systems and requirements. She currently works with and advises health ministries (Pakistan), regional organizations (WHO Regional Office for the Eastern Mediterranean), and has been involved at a global level as both staff and advisor (WHO Essential Diagnostics Secretariat; Council Member for International Society of Infectious Disease, representing the Eastern Mediterranean Region).

Dr Shakoor has also served on public health committees at a global level before, having contributed as a Member of the Strategic Advisory Group of Experts on in-vitro diagnostics for WHO 2018-2019. She was also a Member of the WHO Technical Advisory Group for Maternal Sepsis. She has served as an alternate Member of the Country Coordinating Mechanism, Pakistan, and also contributed as an independent assessor of TB and malaria programmes on monitoring visits. She has received recognition for her work in paediatric TB diagnostics by being invited to advise and educate paediatricians at a national level, and in antimicrobial resistance detection and control policies in multiple national and global forums. Her research work in infectious disease diagnostics has impacted public health policies and measures both locally and globally. Working towards tuberculosis elimination is both a personal and a professional goal.
