Dr S. M. Tafsir Hasan

Dr S. M. Tafsir Hasan is a physician turned public health researcher with an advanced degree in Applied Statistics. Currently, he is an Associate Scientist and the Lead, Maternal Nutrition at icddr,b, an international public health research organization based in Dhaka, Bangladesh. Dr Hasan’s research efforts are dedicated to the improvement of maternal and child health with a specific emphasis on malnutrition. His notable work includes examining the complex interplay of biological, social, and environmental factors contributing to inappropriate gestational weight gain, pregnancy complications, intrauterine growth restriction, low birth weight, preterm birth, neonatal infections, and other major maternal and childhood complications. With his team, he strives to optimize gestational weight gain, perinatal outcomes, and child growth by developing and testing novel interventions. Besides his research role, Dr Hasan has pedagogical responsibilities at the James P Grant School of Public Health, BRAC University.
