Dr Cleiton Euzebio De Lima
Biography
Cleiton Euzebio de Lima works as Senior Adviser for Communities and Key Populations at UNAIDS HQ in Geneva. As the global focal point for LGBTI communities, he leads the development and implementation of the UNAIDS engagement strategy to enhance the involvement of LGBTI+ organizations and networks in the AIDS response. As the overall focal point for key populations, Cleiton provides providing strategic policy/programmatic advice for other departments at global level and for UNAIDS regional and country offices on issues affecting key populations.
He has more than 14 years of experience of work in HIV, human rights and international development with focus on community leadership and vulnerable populations. He worked from 2014 – 2020 as Country Director a.i. and Community Support Adviser at UNAIDS Country Office in Brazil. During this period, he developed and implemented a number of programmes and projects with focus on increasing access to HIV services, reducing HIV-related stigma and discrimination and expanding the meaningful engagement of people living with HIV and most affected populations, including LGBTI people, in the national response to HIV in Brazil.
Before joining UNAIDS, Cleiton hold technical positions at UNFPA, UNODC and UN Women, implementing HIV programmes in close partnership with other vulnerable communities, including young people, indigenous women, people in prison settings and people who use drugs.
Cleiton holds a master’s degree in Political Science from University of Brasilia with focus on political participation and gender.
