Dr Elyes Zhioua

Biography

Dr Elyes Zhioua is a medical entomologist and parasitologist with over 30 years of experience in vector-borne diseases and zoonotic infections. As a professor at the Pasteur Institute of Tunis, he leads research on sand flies and ticks, focusing on diseases such as leishmaniasis, Lyme disease and phleboviruses. His work emphasizes public health interventions and the fight against vector-borne diseases globally, with collaborations extending across Europe, North America and North Africa. Dr Zhioua, an expert in ecology, epidemiology, and vector control, has been a key contributor to various WHO-led initiatives and holds several patents for innovative vector control methods.

Dr Zhioua is a member of the Vector Control Advisory Group (VCAG) since 2024.
