Dr Mehta has more than 35 years of professional experience. She initiated, developed and led IPC programmes in major public sector teaching hospitals affiliated to Delhi University. Training medical and nursing students in IPC, curriculum development and research. Her last position was Director Professor and Head of Clinical microbiology, Lady Hardinge Medical College, New Delhi. She was the founder member of the Hospital Infection Society India, President 2006-2010. She 1996, in the international sphere, she has been committed to a variety of projects, such as temporary advisor/resource person, for WHO consultations, workshops, training programmes, IPC consultant to SEAR countries, focal point and acting Regional Advisor in patient safety, IPC, SEARO 2009-11, member of the IPC network of experts, WHO HQ 2009, and Director of the International Federation of Infection Control 2004-8. She supported the development of national Guidelines for IPC in healthcare facilities for Govt of India 2018, training 2021, Core Components of IPC Programmes WHO HQ, 2016 , Regional Strategy for Patient Safety WHO SEARO 2014, training modules on HAI, WHO SEARO, 2014, Advanced Guidelines for Hand Hygiene in Health care, WHO HQ 2005-2009, Guidelines on the Prevention and Control of HAI, WHO SEARO 2001, and National Guidelines for Biomedical waste management for Govt of India, 2000.
