Biography

Dr. Godwin Ubong Akpan specializes in precision public health, leveraging data science, digital health and geographic information systems (GIS) to address health challenges across Africa. As team lead of the Regional Information Systems and Data Analytics team at the WHO Regional Office for Africa, he oversees the implementation of regional platforms for the Transforming African Surveillance System (TASS) initiative. With a Master’s Degree in Public Health, a PhD in Information Technology for Public Health and numerous collaborations with UN organizations, Dr. Akpan has not only contributed to the advancement of public health informatics, but also received recognition with the prestigious WHO Meritorious Award for the Most Outstanding Staff in the African Region.
