Biography

Jan Hendriks is an independent researcher and consultant in vaccinology. Educated in the Netherlands (MSc Biology University of Leiden, 1978 and MSc Immunology, University of Amsterdam, 1980) he obtained a PhD from the faculty of Social and Behavioural Sciences, University of Amsterdam in 2017. Until his retirement in 2018 he worked for nearly 30 years as project manager and training coordinator within the National Vaccine Institute (first RIVM, then NVI, now Intravacc) in Bilthoven, mainly in vaccine technology transfer projects. As liaison manager with WHO he was involved in the establishment of the Developing Country Vaccine Manufacturer’s Network (DCVMN) in early 2000. His international experience includes secondments to the Public Health Directorate of the European Commission (2002-2005) in Luxembourg and to the World Health Organization in Geneva (2013-2015) where he was coordinator of the Global Programme in Influenza Vaccines (GAP). He currently serves on the Scientific Advisory Board of the Utrecht Centre for Affordable Biotherapeutics (UCAB) in the Netherlands and is an adviser to the Board of the Emerging Biopharmaceutical Manufacturers Network (EBPMN). He has (co-)authored around 50 peer-reviewed papers on immunology, vaccinology, and global public health.
