Biography

Dr Dusabe-Richards serves as Director General at the Canadian Institutes of Health Research, overseeing Government-priority research investments in the Initiative Management and Institute Support Branch. Previously, he was Director of Global Health at the International Development Research Centre (IDRC), a Crown Corporation. Leading a diverse team in Canada, Jordan, India, Kenya, Senegal and Uruguay, Dr Dusabe-Richards oversaw the implementation of IDRC’s mandate on Government-funded global health programmes. He led technical and operational delivery of research funding in communicable and noncommunicable diseases, collaborating with UN agencies, governments and nongovernmental organizations across the globe.

Before joining IDRC, Dr Dusabe-Richards was Team Leader (Policy) at the Department of Health and Social Care in the UK Government, where he developed and published policy and legislation on population health, including the acclaimed Tobacco Control Plan for England. Earlier in his career, he conducted research at the Karolinska Institutet and the Liverpool School of Tropical Medicine, and worked in development programmes at Deutscher Entwicklungsdienst and the German Foundation for World Population.

Dr Dusabe-Richards holds a Ph.D. in tropical medicine from the University of Liverpool, an MSc in Global Health from the University of Oxford, and a BSc in Environmental Health from Makerere University.
