Luis Huicho
Biography
Dr. Huicho is pediatrician and a Professor of Pediatrics at Universidad Peruana Cayetano Heredia in Lima, Peru.
He has a vast experience in research related to reproductive, maternal and child child health.
He has been one of the leaders of the Multi-Country Evaluation of Impact, Cost and Effectiveness of the Integrated Management of Childhood Illnesses that was coordinated by the Child and Adolescent Health and Development Department of the World Health Organization and funded by USAID and Bill & Melinda Gates Foundation. This landmark research effort contributed decisively to give child health a high priority at global and national level and was instrumental in the production of Child & Neonatal Survival and Nutrition Lancet series, highly influential in planning and implementation of evidence-based interventions aimed at improving neonatal and child health at country level.
He has also conducted several systematic reviews and meta-analyses on diverse aspects of child health. He has led in Peru the Countdown to 2015 Country Case Study that explored the progress made by Peru in reproductive, maternal, neonatal and child health and the underlying driving factors, whose main results have been published in The Lancet Global Health and other journals.
He has also been involved in several other research initiatives, including innovative strategies to improve neonatal, maternal and child health, to improve retention of human resources for health in rural and underserved areas, and to strengthen health systems.
