Professor Maria Guzman

Prof. Maria G. Guzman, MD, PhD is a Senior professor and Senior Researcher and Researcher of Merit. She is currently the Head of the Center for Research, Diagnostic and Reference of the Institute of Tropical Medicine, Pedro Kouri, IPK, Cuba. She has more than 40 years of experience working in virology and specifically in arbovirus (dengue and zika in the topics of pathogenesis, diagnostic, surveillance and control and vaccine development) and emerging diseases (pandemic influenza, ebola, COVID-19).  

She is a member of several expert committees at PAHO, WHO, TDR, TWAS. She was a former RELDA coordinator (dengue-arbovirus laboratory network, American region). She is also the President of the Cuban Society Microbiology and Parasitology and Academic of Merit of the Cuban Academy of sciences.
