Dr Merceline Dahl-Regis
Biography
Merceline Dahl-Regis is a medical doctor and public health professional. She was appointed Chief Medical Officer, Ministry of Health of the Commonwealth of The Bahamas, and served on numerous health boards. During her tenure, she is credited with the establishment of updated health legislation, national ethics standards, national surveillance for infectious diseases, and promotion of strategic planning with a focus on building human resources capacity. In January 2021, Dr Dahl-Regis was appointed Special Health Advisor of the National Covid-19 Vaccination Plan by The Prime Minister of The Bahamas.
Dr Dahl-Regis served as The Bahamas representative on many regional, international and global committees, including chairing the Strategic Advisory Group of Experts at WHO, the Program and Budget Committee of the WHO Executive Board, and the advisory committees for the elimination of mother-to-child transmission of HIV and syphilis at both PAHO and WHO.
Dr Dahl-Regis is the recipient of awards, including from the Global Alliance of Vaccines and Immunizations, Bill and Melinda Gates Foundation, and United Nations Children's Fund, the PAHO Award for Administration and, most recently, the Public Health Hero of the Americas. On 31 December 2020, Dr Dahl-Regis was named on the Queen's New Year’s Honor List. She was named in The Order of Saint Michael and Saint George (CMG) for excellence in public and community health.
