Prof Mirfin M Mpundu
Biography
Executive Director- ReAct Africa and Professor in Global Health - Global Institute of Public Health, India & University of Cape Town Infectious Diseases & HIV Medicine.

Prof. Mirfin Mpundu is an international public health expert with over 25 years of global leadership experience in infectious diseases, AMR, pharmaceutical supply chain management, global health security, One Health, and international health policy and diplomacy. As the Executive Director of ReAct Africa, he has successfully supported several countries in developing and implementing their AMR National Action Plans and has provided technical support on AMR strategies and policies to organizations such as the WHO, FAO, OIE, Africa CDC, and the Southern Africa Development Community (SADC).
He holds consultancy roles with the World Bank and USAID, providing technical expertise in AMR and biodefence. Driven by a passion for equitable access, he has led the successful implementation of innovative Antimicrobial Stewardship Programs in various hospitals across Africa. During his tenure as Partnerships & Stakeholder Engagement Lead for ICARS, he led the development of partnerships and pioneered AMR projects in Africa and has successfully led stewardship and biosecurity initiatives in Zambia, Tanzania, Zimbabwe, Ghana, and Zanzibar.
He holds positions on several boards, including the SEDRIC Board, and serves as a Co-Chair of the External Advisory Board of the Newton AMR Drug Discovery Programme. He also holds faculty positions at the Global Institute of Public Health, India and the University of Cape Town where he is on the research team supporting research efforts within Wellcome Trust funded CAMO-Net and Protea programmes.
