Biography

Mohamed Chakroun is a Medical Doctor, infectious diseases specialist, Professor at the Faculty of Medicine of Monastir, Tunisia.

He is a physician providing care and supporting people living with HIV (PLHIV) with an extensive experience in HIV care, antiretroviral therapy (ART) and prevention including prevention of mother to child transmission (PMTCT).

He supported technically HIV/AIDS & STIs & Hepatitis (HAS) Unit in WHO Regional Office (Cairo, Egypt) in the areas of ART and combination HIV prevention. He’s a member of WHO Guideline Development Group for the use of antiretrovirals as well as member of WHO HIVResNet.

He was involved in the development and the implementation of the strategy on PMTCT of HIV in Tunisia in 2014. Recently, He contributed to the drafting of the strategy on Triple Elimination of Mother-to-Child Transmission (EMTCT) of HIV, syphilis, and hepatitis B in Djibouti (November 2023) and the development of the progress report and road map for the Triple EMTCT of HIV, Syphilis and Hepatitis B in the MENA/EM Region (April 2024).

He is Chair of Country Coordinating Mechanism (CCM) Tunisia, member of the Ethics and Governance Committee as well as Board Member (BM) for Eastern Mediterranean Region Constituency (EMRC) at the Global Fund for AIDS, Tuberculosis and Malaria.
