Dr Normand Labbe

A biosafety inspector at the Public Health Agency of Canada

Biography

Dr. Labbé hold of a Ph.D in environmental microbial ecology from INRS-Institut Armand-Frappier, Quebec, Canada (2007). After postdoctoral studies at École Polytechnique de Montréal (Canada) and the Universiry of Winconsin-Madison (USA), he joined the Center for Biosecurity at Public Health Agency of Canada in 2011 to focus his carrier in biosafety/biosecurity as biocontainment inspector.  

Since then, he is inspecting a wide range of biocontainment facilities from lower to highest containment working with various biological agents and toxins is diverse type of organizations. He is also highly involved in the assessment and evaluation of the national Laboratory incident notification Canada (LINC). As part of the Public Health Agency of Canada, he have contributed to numerous biosafety standards, guidelines, advisory and, directives for existing, new and emerging pathogens such as SARS-CoV-2.           

His areas of expertise are: biosafety, biosecurity, microbiology, molecular biology and incident investigation
