Prof Madhukar Pai
Biography
Prof Pai is a physician & epidemiologist, a Canada Research Chair in Epidemiology & Global Health at McGill University, Montreal, Canada, and Associate Director of the McGill International TB Centre. He is Editor In Chief of PLOS Global Public Health.
He did his medical training in Vellore, India, and completed his PhD in epidemiology at UC Berkeley, and a postdoctoral fellowship at the UCSF. He has technical expertise in the evaluation of IVDs, and the development of policies on IVDs. He has also conducted analyses of uptake of diagnostics and supported the development of target product profiles for better TB diagnostics. He currently advises the Bill & Melinda Gates Foundation and has helped create an India TB program for the Foundation. In addition, he serves as an advisor on TB diagnostics to FIND, Geneva. He serves as Chair of the Public-Private Mix Working Group of the Stop TB Partnership and also co-chaired the New Diagnostics Working Group of the Stop TB Partnership in the past.
Over the past decade, he has contributed to 4 WHO advisory groups (SAGE-IVD, STAG-TB, and Private Sector Governance Advisory Group, and STAG-TB South-East Asia region).
