Dr Shabbir Ismail Argaw
Biography
Dr. Shabbir Argaw oversees program monitoring, evaluation, informatics, data use and quality management and improvement at the Elizabeth Glaser Pediatric AIDS Foundation, managing standardization, development and operations of the organization’s data management systems and policies since October 2010.
As the senior director, Dr. Argaw ensures that the Foundation’s Strategic Information Standards are met across all the country programs, including data collected from program sites are of optimal quality and are adequately utilized to continually optimize the Foundation’s programs.
Prior to joining the Foundation, Dr. Argaw led Harvard University’s Tanzania HIV/AIDS Care and Treatment Program as the Assistant Country Director, where he provided technical oversight to the provision of HIV prevention, care and treatment services at more than 50 health facilities in Dar es Salaam.
Previous to his tenure with Harvard University, Dr. Argaw served multiple roles at the United States Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) office in Ethiopia, most recently as Head of the Strategic Information Branch. In his earlier career, Dr. Argaw served as the Associate Professor of Public Health at Addis Ababa University. Dr. Argaw holds a medical doctors degree and a master’s degree in public health from Addis Ababa University.
