Sivakami Muthusamy

Biography

M. Sivakami is a professor at the Tata Institute of Social Sciences (TISS), Mumbai, India, and a distinguished academic, researcher, and author for over 20 years. Sivakami's expertise is in the intersection of Gender, Health and Demography, using mixed methodology approach.

Sivakami has published widely in peer-reviewed national and international journals such as Lancet, Nature, PLOS One, BMJ Open, Journal of Global Health, BMC-Public Health, International Journal of Health Policy Management (IJHPM), Sexual and Reproductive Health Matters, Journal of Bio-Social Science (JBS), Asian Population Studies, Economic and Political Weekly, Indian Journal of Medical Ethics, Demography India, and Sociological Bulletin among others.

Most recently, Sivakami co-edited the Springer “Handbook on Sex, Gender and Health: Perspectives from South Asia”. Sivakami is an academic editor at PLOS Global Public Health and is on the editorial board of various journals.  Sivakami has received research grants from major national and international funding organisations and collaborates globally. Sivakami believes gender is a significant lens to address health and well-being inequities in India.
