Biography
Prof K. Srinath Reddy, a cardiologist and epidemiologist, is the founder President, Public Health Foundation of India (PHFI). He formerly headed the Department of Cardiology at the All India Institute of Medical Sciences, New Delhi. Under his leadership, PHFI has established five Indian Institutes of Public Health (IIPHs). He was the First Bernard Lown Visiting Professor of Global Cardiovascular Health at Harvard and is presently an Adjunct Professor of Epidemiology at Harvard. He is a Member of the US National Academy of Medicine. He co-chairs the Health Thematic Group of the UN Sustainable Development Solutions Network and served as President, World Heart Federation (2013-15). He is a member of the Global Panel on Agriculture, Food Systems and Nutrition. He has served on WHO expert committees on tobacco control, non-communicable diseases, nutrition, primary care and health workforce. He chaired the High Level Expert Group on Universal Health Coverage for India. He has 570 scientific publications. He was awarded the high civilian honour Padma Bhushan by President of India in 2005. He received the WHO Director General’s Award (2003) and Luther Terry Medal of American Cancer Society (2009) for outstanding contributions to global tobacco control (2009) and Queen Elizabeth Medal for Health Promotion (2005).
