Professor Tobias F. Rinke de Wit

Biography

Tobias F. Rinke de Wit is a molecular biologist and public health specialist and Director of Research of the PharmAccess Group and Joep Lange Institute. He stimulates multidisciplinary implementation and evaluation research along the agenda of PharmAccess. The research mostly focuses on the diagnosis of infectious diseases in Africa, health-care quality improvement and innovative health-care financing supported by mobile health technologies.

Tobias F. Rinke de Wit holds an Academic Chair at the University of Amsterdam. He leads a team of scientists, PhD and master students at the Department of Global Health and Amsterdam Institute for Global Health and Development, where he also coordinates a large-scale HIV testing and treatment programme in the United Republic of Tanzania.

In his position as Principal Investigator at the Department of Global Health of the Amsterdam University Medical Center, he develops the connected diagnostics technology for improving the quality and financing of health-care delivery in Africa.

Another focus of his work is on COVID-19 in Africa, in particular digital mobile rapid diagnostics and the effect of African immune activation status on COVID-19 symptoms. Between 2018 and 2021, Tobias F. Rinke de Wit served as a member of the WHO HIVResNet Steering Group and co-chaired Working Group 5 on Governance and Enabling Mechanisms.
