Biography

Dr. Xiang-Sheng Chen is Professor of the Chinese Academy of Medical Sciences (CAMS) and Peking Union Medical College (PUMC) Institute of Dermatology and Vice Director of the National Center for STD Control at Nanjing, China. He received his medical degree in 1984 and PhD degree in 1998 in China. His research interests focus on development, validation and introduction of strategies to control sexually transmitted infections (STIs).

Prof. Chen is the key person to technically coordinate and support the national STI control programmes, including the National Syphilis Control Programme and National Chlamydia Intervention Programme (CCiP) Pilot Project, and STI research initiatives in China. He is now the vice president of the Chinese Association of STD and AIDS Prevention and Control, a member of the China National Health Commission Expert Advisory Panel for Disease Control, and the Vice Chair of Dermato-Venerology Branch of the Chinese Preventive Medicine Association. As a principal investigator, Prof. Chen has led several research projects from the National Natural Science Foundation of China, the CAMS Initiative for Innovative Medicine, and WHO. He has authored more than 160 papers in international peer-review journals and is the editorial member of several international STI journals.
