Dr Yassen Tcholakov

Biography

Yassen Tcholakov is a medical doctor  leading the Infectious Diseases Unit at the Nunavik Board of Health and Social Services. He is an Assistant Professor in the Department of Global and Public Health at McGill University, and an Associate Professor in the Department of Family Medicine and Emergency Medicine of the University of Montreal. Yassen also currently serves on the WHO Youth Council Steering Committee and on the Stop TB Canada Steering Committee.

He has completed residency training in Public Health and Preventive Medicine at McGill University, he holds a medical degree from the University of Montreal and master's degrees from the London School of Hygiene and Tropical Medicine and the University of Copenhagen.

Yassen has work experience at all jurisdiction levels in the Canadian public health system and has been involved in global health for more than a decade representing health professionals in front of the United Nations. Global health diplomacy, the interface of international trade and health, and environmental protection are among his many interests.
