Yemane Berhane
Biography
Yemane Berhane (MD, MPH, PhD - Professor of Epidemiology and Public Health) is a medical doctor and epidemiologist. He has more than 350 scientific publications in peer-reviewed journals on various public health issues, addressing communicable and non-communicable diseases. He has been engaged in immunization practice and research in various capacities since 1988, including being on immunization technical advisory groups at national and regional levels. He has nurtured strong academic collaborations with universities in Ethiopia and abroad, which help to expand public health graduate education in Ethiopia. He has co-edited four books: ‘Epidemiology and Ecology of Health Diseases in Ethiopia,’ two editions of the ‘Epidemiological Synthesis of HIV/AIDS in Ethiopia,’ and ‘Reproductive and Child Health with a Focus on Ethiopia and Other Developing Countries.’ He has served in many leadership positions in academia and the health system. In addition, he has participated in many technical advisory groups and professional networks at home and abroad. Lately, he has been a member of the COVID-19 professional advisory council for Ethiopia and chair of the Ethiopian NITAG. He is a Founding Fellow of the Ethiopian Academy of Sciences. Since 2006, he has been a senior professor and the director of the Addis Continental Institute of Public Health in Ethiopia.
