Yosr Hamdi
Biography
Dr. Yosr Hamdi is a biologist and researcher at Institut Pasteur de Tunis, Tunisia. She is a specialist in cancer genomics and precision oncology. Dr. Hamdi started in the field of human genetics in 2004 with the Human Genome Project, at Laval University, Quebec, Canada. Then, she had a master degree in Cellular & Molecular Biology at the Faculty of Medicine, Laval University, Canada. Driven by a desire to delve deeper into cancer genomics, Dr. Hamdi pursued her Ph.D in 2009 at the Genomics Center of the Centre de Recherche du Centre Hospitalier de l'Université Laval (CRCHUL), QC, Canada where she obtained a PhD degree in Molecular Medicine.
After completing her PhD, Dr. Hamdi joined Institut Pasteur de Tunis where she started integrating genomic medicine and molecular diagnostics in the Tunisian healthcare system by implementing Precision Oncology. She co-authored many scientific papers in the field of cancer genomics, precision medicine and e-health.
Dr Hamdi also served on the advisory boards of several international organizations and she is member of different national and international consortia and research projects related to Human Genomics including BCAC, CIMBA, H3ABioNet, and H3Africa. She is a sought-after speaker at international conferences and has received numerous awards from Bill and Melinda Gates Foundation, the African Cancer Leadership Institute, Societies of Medical Oncology, and the H3Africa Consortium.
By combining genomics, molecular biology and bioinformatics, Dr. Hamdi is now leading the Genome Tunisia Collaborative Alliance (GTCA) and the PerMediNA Consortium (Personalised Medicine In North Africa) in order to continue the investigations of Cancer Genomics in African populations as well as implementing Genomic Medicine and Precision Oncology in North Africa.
