During the celebration event, attended by Mr. Zahid Maleque MP, Hon’ble Minister, Ministry of Health and Family Welfare along with high level public officials and health partners, guests expressed their support to Bangladesh for achieving UHC. This is a commitment of the Government of Bangladesh towards all its citizens that by 2030 all people will have access to good quality health services, when and where they need them, without suffering financial hardship.

The challenge today is how to accelerate our progress on UHC. This is where primary health care comes in. The majority of a person’s health needs – whatever their age or health condition – can be delivered by well-functioning primary care, backed up if needed by hospital services. There is plenty of evidence that this is both equitable and efficient.

On the occasion of World Health Day, the best performing public healthcare facilities in the country received the Health Minister’s National Award 2018. This is an initiative that recognises and promotes best health management practices across publicly funded health units and offices in Bangladesh.

WHO stands alongside the Government of Bangladesh and other development partners for ensuring ‘health for all’ by 2030 and to contribute to social wellbeing and economic development.
