Heavy monsoon rain followed by landslides affects over 270 000 people in north and eastern regions of Bangladesh, causing 14 deaths and disrupting livelihood in 50 Upazilas from different districts.
A total of 1468 Medical Teams have been activated for tackling the health problems in the flood affected areas while emergency drugs, including ORS, WPT, IV saline, anti-snake venom, antibiotics and other necessary medicines have been dispatched from buffer stocks of the hospitals.
According to Flood Forecasting and Warning Centre, all major rivers may continue rising in the next 72 hours. Consequently, situation may deteriorate further, affecting more areas by floods in the coming days.
Further high risks of landslide are present in hilly regions of Chattogram and Sylhet divisions due to the foreseen heavy rainfall in the upcoming period.
WHO works closely with Health Emergency Operation Centre under Directorate General of Health Services and other partners in monitoring the overall situation, being prepared to offer support to local and national authorities.
