The World Health Organization (WHO) and the Ministry of Health has jointly organized a workshop from 10–12 September 2025 in Paro to develop the Operational Plan for the WHO Programme Budget 2026–2027, . This event brings together Implementing Partners, including focal points from the Ministry of Health, National Medical Services, and Khesar Gyalpo University of Medical Sciences of Bhutan, to prioritize program activities for the upcoming biennium.
WHO Representative to Bhutan, Dr Bhupinder Kaur Aulakh, emphasized the importance of this biennium, stating that, “It is critical that priority program activities directly respond to the public health needs of the population. These must align with priorities of the 13th Five-Year Plan of the Royal Government of Bhutan, while also advancing WHO’s regional and global health priorities and Sustainable Development Goals.”
WHO jointly with the Ministry of Health has developed a list of priority activities considering the 13th Five Year plan, WHO’s global and regional priorities and SDGs. This priority list will guide the implementation of activities supported by WHO in the next biennium 2026-2027.
Dr Aulakh reaffirmed WHO’s full commitment to support the Ministry of Health and allied agencies in implementing programs and activities to improve the health of people of Bhutan leaving no-one behind.
