Disease Outbreak Reported
An outbreak of cholera has been reported by the Ministry of Health which has affected four districts in Kinshasa Province (Barumbu, Kinshasa, Limete/Kingaba and Kingwala - all newly infected areas). A total of 147 cases with 33 deaths reported up to 29 March. An interdisciplinary team including representatives of WHO, UNDP, UNICEF, UNHCR, and MSF have donated money and supplies to help control the outbreak. Measures relating to water quality and sanitation as well as a public information campaign in collaboration with the Red Cross are being undertaken.
Other countries reporting cholera in the past week are Benin, Mali and Niger.
