On 23 September 2025, WHO/Europe – through its WHO Office on Quality of Care and Patient Safety in Athens, Greece, and in collaboration with the European Commission’s Secretariat-General for Structural Reform Support and the Ministry of Health of Greece – will hold a second stakeholder workshop titled “Strengthening of the National Health Technology Assessment (HTA) Framework in Greece”. HTA is critical to achieving universal health coverage by ensuring that health outcomes are maximized within health systems’ limited resources through evidence-informed decision-making.
Taking place in Athens, Greece, the workshop will convene a stakeholder meeting to present and disseminate Greece’s updated national HTA framework, which includes updated methods and process guidance. The new guidance has been aligned with the European Union (EU) Regulation on HTA, which aims to harmonize HTA practices across EU Member States for clinical assessment of health technologies, and with the best practices from across the WHO European Region. The event will also provide an opportunity for dialogue, clarification and feedback to support transparent and effective implementation of this revised national HTA framework for Greece.
This initiative is part of Greece’s national efforts to streamline HTA assessments, reduce delays and improve patient access to cost-effective treatments and medical devices, ultimately improving population health and strengthening the sustainability of the health-care system.
Meeting details
The meeting will bring together a broad range of stakeholders, including Greek government agencies, patient advocacy groups, industry associations, academic institutions, the European Commission, the Organisation for Economic Co-operation and Development and WHO. The event will feature presentations, moderated discussions and interactive sessions, facilitating dialogue and knowledge exchange among participants.
