To simplify, streamline and digitize the sharing of good practice experiences across the WHO European Region, the Joint Tuberculosis, HIV and Viral Hepatitis programme has developed a Virtual Library of good practices.
Since 2013, the WHO Regional Office for Europe has been collecting examples of good practice in the response to tuberculosis, HIV and viral hepatitis epidemics from Member States, partners and communities for the purpose of building compendiums. More than 260 examples of good practices have been collected and reviewed.
This has led to the production of five compendiums of good practices, which are available in both English and Russian, and are now stored together in the Virtual Library. The platform consists of a digital repository of good practice narratives and a digitized online submission tool for good practice coordination and sharing between Member States, partners and communities, and the Regional Office.
Evidence-based public health has commonly relied on findings from empirical studies or on research-based evidence. However, practice-based evidence derived from programmes implemented in real-life settings is a valuable resource that can be used to inspire and guide public health programmes.
The COVID-19 pandemic has had negative impacts on health service delivery and the response to many diseases, including tuberculosis, HIV and viral hepatitis. In order to document and disseminate successful examples of good practices in response to these three diseases during the pandemic, the Regional Office is issuing a call to Member States, partners and community organizations across the WHO European Region to submit their examples of good practices.
Submissions should consist of one primary example of good practice and must be received by 31 December 2020. Details of how to submit can be found on the Virtual Library website below.
