On 6 April, over 2500 runners in Kyrgyzstan embraced the theme “My health, my right” as they celebrated World Health Day. People of various ages and fitness levels participated in the annual event in Bishkek, demonstrating their dedication to an active and healthy lifestyle.

Akylbek Japarov, Chairman of the Cabinet of Ministers of the Kyrgyz Republic and Head of the Presidential Administration of the Kyrgyz Republic, Dr Alymkadyr Beishenaliev, Minister of Health of the Kyrgyz Republic, and Altynbek Maksutov, Minister of Culture, Information, Sports, and Youth Policy of the Kyrgyz Republic attended the event, alongside representatives from various health institutes, WHO Country Office staff, and Bishkek residents.

Olympic champion Aisuluu Tynybekova was among the Kyrgyz athletes who participated in the run, adding excitement to the event and celebrating the spirit of health and fitness. Additionally, events were held in every region of the country with the goal of promoting a healthy lifestyle and fostering a culture of participation in sports.

“Health is not a privilege; it is a fundamental right of every person and should be available to everyone. Today we stand together at the starting line, not just to run the race, but to reaffirm our commitment to health, which truly is our most basic right,” said Dr Liviu Vedrasco, WHO Representative to Kyrgyzstan.

Medical consultations and guidance on adopting healthy lifestyles were provided to all participants, in addition to services such as blood pressure checks, rapid HIV testing, and diabetes screenings.
