The state of ear and hearing care in Georgia

Overview

This report summarizes ear and hearing care in Georgia. It describes the current resources, needs, gaps and opportunities for intervention to comprehensively integrate people-centred ear and hearing care into the national health system. The situation review was conducted in partnership with the Ministry of Internally Displaced People from the Occupied Territories, Labour, Health and Social Affairs, with technical support from the WHO Regional Office for Europe and the WHO Country Office in Georgia. Data were collected through a policy dialogue, interviews and focus groups with Government ministries and State agencies, development partners, United Nations agencies, nongovernmental organizations, disabled people’s organizations and rehabilitation users. The publication syntheses the findings using the WHO six building blocks of health systems: leadership and governance, service delivery, health workforce, medical products and health technology, health information systems and research, and health financing. The publication provides a snapshot in time with the aim to comprehensively integrate people-centred ear and hearing care into the national health system.
