On that day last year, WHO launched Global strategy to accelerate the elimination of cervical cancer as a public health problem, with a resolution passed by 194 countries. Countries and communities around the world marked this movement with a day of action and the launch of local campaigns. Advocates and survivors played leading roles and shared their stories. They were joined by high-level speakers, representing a broad coalition of partners dedicated to eliminating cervical cancer, and four-time Grammy Award-winning artist Angélique Kidjo. Communities across the globe illuminated the cause, lighting over 100 landmarks in the color teal, the color for cervical cancer elimination (revisit the historic moment).
