EVIPNet Americas Regional Meeting: Overcoming barriers to integrate scientific evidence and health policies in the Americas

Tuesday, 16 November 2021, 18:00-21:00 CET

The COVID-19 pandemic has not globally impacted the population's global health, but it has also reshaped how evidence ecosystems were conceived until now. In this context, evidence-informed decision making (EIDM) has come into the spotlight as a key process to make better policies and programs during global crises.

The Evidence-informed Policy Network (EVIPNet) is a global network that has supported countries for a long time in putting actionable evidence in the hands of decision makers across the world. EVIPNet counts with several members, countries, and supporters over its more than a decade of experience in supporting knowledge translation initiatives.

EVIPNet has been particularly active in the Americas region, where activities have been planned since the beginning of this international network. Over the past decade, EVIPNet Americas has successfully strengthened the network between evidence producers and users in Latin America and the Caribbean (LAC).

The last EVIPNet Americas meeting took place in Santiago, Chile in October 2019. During this meeting that was hosted by the Chilean Ministry of Health, several countries of the region gathered to reflect on how to better strengthen capacity and put good evidence in the decision-makers hands across the region.

This new regional meeting aims to gather knowledge and discussing the processes for using scientific evidence for decision-making in LAC countries, and to strengthen the EVIPNet Americas network as a key initiative to support countries in the region to make better policies and programs for their citizens.
