How we work
The Global Clinical Trials Forum (GCTF) is a collaborative, multi-stakeholder network committed to strengthening clinical trial capacity worldwide, in alignment with World Health Assembly Resolution WHA75.8. GCTF brings together key actors—including policymakers, researchers, regulators, funders, and patient and community representative organizations—to foster inclusive dialogue, share knowledge, and coordinate targeted actions that address national, regional, and global challenges in clinical research.
By promoting transparency, equity, and collaboration, GCTF aims to improve the quality, inclusiveness, and impact of clinical trials. This unified approach supports the generation of robust evidence to inform public health decision-making and improve health outcomes globally.
Global Action Plan for Clinical Trial Ecosystem Strengthening (GAP-CTS)
Building on previous GCTF engagements, the Global Action Plan for Clinical Trial Ecosystem Strengthening (GAP-CTS) has emerged as the key strategic framework guiding global stakeholder efforts to implement best practices in clinical trials. These practices are outlined in WHO’s Guidance for Best Practices for Clinical Trials and aligned with WHA75.8 resolution on strengthening clinical trials.
GAP-CTS identifies nine priority action areas designed to address critical barriers within the current clinical trial ecosystem. These areas serve as a roadmap for coordinated action to enhance the efficiency, inclusivity, and sustainability of clinical research.
Priority areas of GAP-CTS
The Global Clinical Trials Forum (GCTF) will work collaboratively to implement the nine priority action areas to align global efforts to strengthen clinical trials ecosystem. Through dedicated working groups, GCTF members will combine their efforts to drive meaningful progress in each area, aiming to transform the clinical trial landscape, accelerate the generation of high-quality evidence, and advance health equity worldwide.
