Status in 1999: 57 countries at risk:

Afghanistan, Angola, Bangladesh, Benin, Burkina Faso, Burundi, Cambodia, Cameroon, Central African Republic (the), Chad, China, Comoros (the), Congo (the), Côte d'Ivoire, Democratic Republic of the Congo, Egypt, Equatorial Guinea, Eritrea, Ethiopia, Gabon, Ghana, Guinea, Guinea-Bissau, Haiti, India, Indonesia, Iraq, Kenya, Lao People's Democratic Republic (the), Liberia, Madagascar, Malawi, Mali, Mauritania, Mozambique, Myanmar, Namibia, Nepal, Niger (the), Nigeria, Pakistan, Papua New Guinea, Philippines (the), Rwanda, Senegal, Sierra Leone, Somalia, South Africa, Sudan (the), Togo, Turkey, Uganda, United Republic of Tanzania (the), Viet Nam, Yemen, Zambia, Zimbabwe. This number increased to 59 with independence of Timor-Leste in 2002 and South Sudan in 2011.

By December 2024, 49 countries have been validated as having achieved MNT elimination:

The map shows the 49 countries out of 59 countries at risk for MNTE since 2000, where elimination has been achieved. It also shows the 10 countries where MNT is still a public health problem, which include: Afghanistan, Angola, Central African Republic, Nigeria, Pakistan, Papua New Guinea, Somalia, Sudan, South Sudan and Yemen.
As of December 2024, 10 countries have not yet eliminated MNT.
