Kathmandu, Bagmati province – On 19 June, WHO Country Office for Nepal handed over an Electronic Medical Record (EMR) system to the Armed Police Force (APF) Hospital, marking another step forward in Nepal’s health-care digitization and security. The EMR system, developed on an open-source platform with WHO's technical support for server infrastructure and power backup, reduces reliance on paper-based processes. It also enables real-time access to medical records, supporting more efficient and informed patient care. This supports timely clinical decisions, strengthens disease surveillance and improves emergency preparedness. At the handover, officials highlighted the impact of digital tools in improving patient care, advancing data-driven decisions and promoting equitable health access. The system will be rolled out in phases, fully integrating hospital departments and aligning with national digital health strategies. WHO will continue to provide technical support for the phased implementation and capacity-building initiatives for hospital staff. The initiative is supported by The Pandemic Fund.
