What does making progress in health financing, in support of UHC mean? How do countries know they're headed in the right direction? What political strategies facilitate progress? To answer these questions WHO’s Department of Health Systems Governance and Financing hosted a one-day Symposium on Health Financing for UHC, on Tuesday 9 October 2018, as part of the Global Symposium on Health Systems Research in Liverpool.
The session discussed thinking and current evidence regarding the development and implementation of health financing policies to facilitate progress towards UHC. Leading academics, policy makers, and practitioners came together to discuss and debate newly developed frameworks that address both technical and political aspects of the implementation of policies that finance coverage expansion. The session focused on the feasible and useful application of these frameworks in countries to advance progress towards UHC.
