Further to COVID 19 restrictions on international travel, the 29th UNRSC meeting was held virtually through a series of 3 virtual meetings taking place on 16 April, 28 May and 30 June 2020.
Each virtual meeting convened over 100 participants who discussed:
- the planning of global advocacy events (i.e. World Day of Remembrance for Traffic Victims and Road Safety Week);
- the means to support in the short term the adoption of a UNGA resolution referring in its provisional form to a second decade of action for road safety and the endorsement of the Stockholm Declaration;
- the operating modes of the UNRSC, including with regards to project groups’ structure, to best support the implementation of the Stockholm Declaration and targets set in the 2030 Development agenda (e.g. SDG target 11.2 and SDG target 3.6).
Consensus was reached on the following:
- a tagline for the World Day of Remembrance;
- a process to support the planning of the road safety week (including through a survey to refine objectives and key messages);
- a continuation of periodic virtual meetings at least till the end of the year 2020;
- a need to revisit the structure of current project groups to best support the implementation of the Stockholm Declaration and targets set in the 2030 Development agenda;
- a need to further engage in the Collaboration’s activities Member States, regional data observatories and as appropriate private sector entities;
- a need to start reflecting on the contents and adequate process to develop a roadmap for the next decade.
During the last virtual discussion on 30 June, were also welcome as new members of the Collaboration:
- Association for the Advancement of Automotive Medicine (AAAM) ;
- Panos Mylonas;
