Webinar: The crucial role of oxygen in global health

2 October 2024 13:30 – 14:30 CET

WHO World Oxygen Day

WHO is hosting a webinar highlighting oxygen's crucial role in global health. WHO welcomes all to attend, including global health professionals, healthcare professionals, public health advocates, policymakers, and other persons interested in medical oxygen scale-up and sustaining oxygen ecosystems.

Date: Wednesday 2 October 2024

Session: 13:30 CET

Language: English

Background

Oxygen is an essential medicine used to care for patients at all levels of the health care system. It is life-saving for severe respiratory illnesses like COVID-19 and pneumonia, and for surgery and trauma management.

Oxygen must be available to all patients who require it, especially vulnerable groups such as the elderly, pregnant women, children and newborns.

There remain large gaps in availability of medical oxygen, and inequitable access to it worldwide.

Join the World Health Organization (WHO) for an important World Oxygen Day webinar highlighting oxygen's crucial role in global health.

WHO resolution

In 2023 a new resolution to improve access of oxygen was adopted.
