Leadership in health and migration: policies and actions across countries

Today, in an era of unprecedented human mobility, more than one billion people, one in eight globally, are migrants or forcibly displaced, moving across borders or within their own countries, by force or by choice. Many experience poorer health outcomes than host populations amid precarious living and working conditions, legal and financial barriers, and limited access to essential services. Notably, refugees and migrants are scientists, health workers and leaders who social and economic fabric of both host and origin countries. Their inclusion reinforces that health is a fundamental human right, central to dignity, protection, and development.

Ensuring equitable, timely and culturally sensitive health care for refugees and migrants, consistent with the principles of Universal Health Coverage (UHC), is essential to achieving health for all. This requires strong leadership, collaboration across sectors, and coordinated action across borders to build inclusive and resilient health systems that leave no one behind.

The sixth edition of the Global School on Refugee and Migrant Health will take place over three days, exploring how leadership at global, regional, national and community levels can drive progress in advancing refugee and migrant health. Through interactive panels, keynote presentations and country case studies, participants will engage with practical experiences and evidence-based approaches from around the world. The sessions will showcase innovations in policy and practice that promote inclusion, strengthen health systems and enhance coordination across sectors.
