Online seminar targets primary health care workers to manage COVID-19 in Indonesia

17 May 2020

In early May, thousands of frontline primary health care workers across Indonesia tuned in to an online seminar on strengthening the roles of primary health care in prevention and control of COVID-19. The seminar was funded by USAID and hosted by the Directorate of Primary Health Services and Ministry of Health, with collaborative support from the Indonesian Medical Collegium (KDI) and WHO. While most online trainings on COVID-19 have focused on hospitals, this seminar concentrated on primary health care settings in Indonesia where many mild-moderate COVID-19 patients seek care. Participants from all Indonesian provinces attended the webinar or live-streamed it from YouTube. The seminar allowed participants to submit questions during the self-directed study portion of the training and have those questions answered during the interactive webinar. A pre-and post-test were a part of the training designed to help participants conduct effective prevention and control activities for COVID-19. WHO also provided technical assistance to develop the training modules based off relevant guidance and policy. A video tutorial is available as a post-seminar reference point for participants and health care workers who were unable to attend the seminar.
